Breaking the cycle of poverty


Simply Unique Lanka is a non-profit Guarantee Limited Company incorporated in Sri Lanka since 2020.

It is  the new legal form of the Swiss Foundation Silvia’s Kinderhilfe in Sri Lanka, a charity organisation that was started in Hikkaduwa in 1991 by the Swiss couple Silvia and Rino Sommer.
The foundation was running a registered orphanage for 24 years. It is financed and sponsored by private Swiss citizens (community-based fundraising).


Simply Unique Lanka aims to break the cycle of poverty by:

  • assisting children, youth and single women living in underprivileged and disadvantaged circumstances by enhancing their living standards;
  • providing the necessary welfare requirements to the children
  • educating the youth and single women living in underprivileged and disadvantaged    circumstances to be self-sufficient as well as to engage in self-employment ventures;
  • providing the youth and single women living in underprivileged and disadvantaged circumstances with employment opportunities with the Company, or other Corporates

Franziska has left her work as a health professional ten years ago and has been dedicating all her time and energy to uplift vulnerable children and single mothers in Sri Lanka ever since.

As a mother of two grown-up daughters, she is passionate about improving the life prospects of girls and women.

She lives with her family in Switzerland and is the president of Stiftung Silvia's Kinderhilfe, a charitable organisation founded in 1991.

Saman Kumara has an IT background and has worked in the field for 19 years. He carries a wealth of social justice experience and entrepreneurship. Saman has implemented and developed BPO units, providing secure career opportunities to underprivileged youth groups. Saman is the Chief Operating Officer of Simply Unique Lanka

Shalini is an Attorney-at-law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. She holds a double degree from the University of Sydney (LL.B., B.Com.) & holds a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law in St. Leonard's, New South Wales. She lives in Colombo and is the Legal Officer & Project Manager of Simply Unique.
